Some days back when some of my colleagues, wished that they were 20 again, I wished I were 30 again!! 20 seems to be too far away for me, I said then. But actually, thinking about my instinctive response later, I have concluded that 30s is the best age band for me…I want t be forever 30!!
Well for one, I really wouldn’t want to go back to college. I guess I have done my bit of studying – engineering, management, for Christ’s sake, I was a student till 26!!! No way am I doing that again.
Also, imagine the baggage that comes with being 20 besides studies, for me –
1. No Money – Ah! The root of all evil. No money translates into a host of can’t dos. Can’t do discos, can’t do treks, can’t do movies, can’t do nothing!!!!
2. No Honey – need I say more!
3. No Independence – What Mahatma Gandhi fought for. Curfews on everything.
4. No Voice – What would I do to be taken seriously!!!
5. No style – At least when I was 20, the style quotient was at the all time low. I am embarrassed to show those photos to anyone.
6. No vacations – One thing after another. Study during vacations, or work, where was a time for a holiday!!!
Dismal, isn’t it? But there are still so many things that I would bring from when I was 20 to today.
1. Festivals, as they should be – Be it Diwali, Ganapati, Garba Dandiya, Christmas, it was far less commercialised. Everything used to be clean and clear.
2. Fun – Had loads of it. At college, at home, at the ‘katta’. Everyone seems to be less sporting today!
3. Friends – Some of them I have lost on my way. Am desperately trying to build my network.
4. The sense of security – seems to have vanished today.
Okay okay, I am not going to launch in another flashback. I am enjoying my 30s, and the under 30s enjoying their 20s. And with them around me (so many of them!!!), I am enjoying my 20s with them. In a way we are even younger than that. Finally, aren’t we all children who never wanted growing up?!!
