This independence day, I pray that we can one day be truly free. Free from the pseudo-secular system, from the corrupt system, from the clutches of the political system focussed on its own benefit than the country’s, free from the sense of hopelessness that has crept up in society, from the Matrix like situation where these is a sense of false freedom and security.

I wonder when our great freedom fighters fought for freedom what they would have had in mind. Would they look at NOW and be proud of getting us freedom? And freedom from what? From the British Governance? And for what?

Would they say, yes, this is what we had wished for the people of this great country? Would they be proud that millions still are illiterate because of poor educational programs? Or be happy to know that hundreds and thousands of innocents are trapped in jails while the politicians with their criminal records and their equally criminal goons roam scot free? Is this the freedom that they wanted us to inherit where public servants rule over the people? Where people get killed for raising social issues? Is this the system they wanted when they said that every Indian could decide his own fate?

No, we are not free. Not truly free. All our freedom fighters wanted was people to have the power. So that each one could have a better life. But we don’t. The best minds leave the country in search of a better life. And not so better minds as well. Less than half the population votes for this democracy. Why? Are they lazy? Or bored? Or they have no sense of any belief left in the ones in power? And why do we have refer to the elected politicians as the ones in power? One vote can make a difference, but history has shown that votes can be bought. Morals, anyone?

We live in a Matrix like system. We have been instilled with the false sense of freedom, by those manipulating the system. We live, we die. The system never does.
